Shanel Fields WG'19

Shanel's journey in the world of healthcare and public safety innovation is nothing short of remarkable. As the daughter of a volunteer EMT, she embarked on a mission to bridge the gap between 911 services and the broader healthcare ecosystem. Shanel's passion for expanding access to care led her to establish MD Ally, a groundbreaking 911 telehealth company.

During her time at Wharton, Shanel's commitment to her cause took her on a journey across the country, where she immersed herself in the operations of Public Safety agencies in Texas, Arizona, California, and Massachusetts. These experiences allowed her to gain deep insights into non-emergency utilization of 911 services, and ultimately, the inspiration for a transformative solution.

MD Ally's innovative approach intercepts patient behavior by acknowledging that they may call 911 and intervene before they are transported to the highest-cost healthcare facilities. Shanel Fields, through MD Ally, forges essential partnerships with payors and Public Safety entities to establish a new non-emergency 911 response tier. This tier offers access to a wide spectrum of services, including medical, mental health, substance abuse, and social services.

As a founder and esteemed board member of Techstars, Shanel Fields has successfully raised millions to fuel public safety innovation on a national scale. Her work has garnered widespread recognition, being featured on prestigious platforms such as Good Morning America, The New York Times, and NBC's insightful docuseries, "Founding in Color." Shanel leverages her platform to champion the cause of expanded access to care through collaborations with government infrastructure and patient-centered payor partnerships.
